Pilgrim Congregational Church

Diaconate

Diaconate/Board of Worship

The Diaconate, or board of Deacons, is currently made up of 8 members who are tasked with helping the pastors with the spiritual needs of the church. In addition, they have two deacon Emeriti, or former deacons who have been granted the title for life due to their length of service and dedication to the deacons.

You will notice the deacons participating in worship services by doing readings of scriptures and assisting with serving communion. In addition, the deacons provide worship leadership during the pastors’ vacation or other absence. They do everything from preparing prayers to presenting the message.

Deacons also organize a lot of the special events in the life of the church including the homecoming brunch, the agape meal on Maundy Thursday, and the Bell Ringers concert pot luck. We host coffee hour two months of the year as well.

Other ways the deacons serve is to provide assistance during funeral services at the church, send flowers and plants for bereavements and hospitalizations, hosting new member dinners, and visiting shut-ins and other church members.

Deacons meet monthly in order to plan their activities for the coming month. The Board of Worship has merged with the Diaconate to assist in many facets of creative input and practical implementation of the design of our worship services, in tandem with our Pastor.
