Music is a vital and lively element of worship at Pilgrim Church. With music, the people at Pilgrim participate in making a worthy offering of praise to the glory of God. This experience lifts our hearts in celebration of God and draws us into the community of faith. In our worship we celebrate the rich heritage of classical western music as well as songs, spirituals and anthems from around the globe and across the Christian era of faith.
We have a Senior Choir, a Junior (Children’s) Choir and a Hand Bell Choir. We have many instrumentalists of all ages who also assist in worship and at special occasions throughout the year. Just as there are many ways of interpreting our religious traditions, there are many types of music which open hearts and honor God.
Pilgrim Congregational Church has an outstanding multi-generational volunteer handbell choir, called the Rainbow Ringers. The Rainbow Ringers add distinctive musical beauty to our worship services on the second Sunday of each month from September - June, with special performances during Advent and Lenten seasons.
The choir rehearses Monday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. from September thru mid-June. It is not necessary that one read music in order to play, and new members are always encouraged to join the choir. Many find that after a few rehearsals they can play the bells, and the choir members find that lasting friendships are formed by joining the choir. At times, The Rainbow Ringers attend workshops and join with other bell choirs, sometimes ringing with as many as 200 other ringers.
Do you have the gift of music and song? Do you desire to be a part of a talented and fun-loving group? Then come and join the Pilgrim Church’s Senior Choir. Pilgrim’s choir comprises singers of exceptional talent whose music is coordinated to compliment each Sunday’s theme of worship. It is open to anyone who is interested. The choir is accomplished in a number of musical genres, performing modern, contemporary, spiritual and folk pieces as well as works from many musical periods.
In addition to Sunday worship services, the choir performs at our Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve Services. The choir rehearses every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. During Christmas and Easter there are opportunities for people to join the choir for a shorter term. Many choir members prepare solos and other small group pieces. We are a dedicated group of all ages and abilities who love singing for the Lord.
The children’s choir of Pilgrim Church rehearses every Sunday at 11 A.M. and is open to any child. Children have fun singing and laughing with their friends. Many techniques are used to teach the children. The messages children learn through song stay with them forever and can serve as ever ready personal spiritual resources. Our choir shapes young Christian character through music.
